Admissions FAQs

Q.
What are the requirements for admission to Marist School?
A.
The Admissions Committee, a review board composed of teachers and administrators, considers both the academic and conduct records from the applicant's current school, evaluations from the current Math and English teachers, scores on the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) and other standardized tests, as well as the written application, evidence of the applicant's own desire to participate in the life of the school and the results of a personal interview. All of the above information is considered in order to faithfully discern the candidate's total profile. Priority in admission is given to qualified applicants who are the children of alumni or who have a sibling who either attends or has graduated from Marist School.

Q.
Do I have to be Roman Catholic to attend Marist School?
A.
We expect that 100% of our families to be faith-filled and to participate actively in their home parishes, churches, or places of worship.  Catholic families represent 75% of the student body with 25% of the students from other faith traditions. All students, regardless of faith, will take religion courses every year as well as attend periodic worship services, including the celebration of the Roman Catholic Mass. Campus Ministry activities are available for students of all faiths.

Q.
How many students will Marist School accept?
A.
Marist takes 140 new seventh graders each year and also adds approximately 60 new ninth graders. Depending on space availability, a limited number of students are accepted into the eighth, tenth, and eleventh grade. Twelfth graders are considered only if transferring from an out of state college preparatory school.

Q.
How much does it cost to attend Marist School?
A.
Tuition for the 2011-12 school year is $15,850. This does not include a $500 registration fee. Need-based financial aid is available.  The financial need of an applicant is not a factor known to the Admissions Committee. A separate application for financial aid can be found in the Tuition & Financial Aid section of the website. In accordance with Georgia High School Association rules, no merit scholarships for academics, athletics, or any other activity are offered.  Other expenses include the cost of textbooks and supplies (average $500), uniforms, lunch and transportation to school.

Q.
Do students wear uniforms?
A.
All students wear uniforms. Boys wear gray trousers with a belt, a blue, yellow or white oxford shirt and black leather shoes. Girls wear a Marist plaid skort with the oxford shirt and specified shoes. During the winter, all students wear a navy blazer or letter jacket and boys wear a Marist tie.

Q.
Is lunch included in the price of tuition?
A.
Expenses for lunch are not included in the tuition. Students may bring their own lunch or purchase a wide variety of hot meals, sandwiches, drinks, etc., at the cafeteria.
