Marist School Blue & Gold Circle

Mission Statement
The Marist School Blue & Gold Athletics Circle was established in 2003 to honor those who have made outstanding contributions to Marist athletics. Selection will take into consideration personal excellence in athletic, academic, and service to Marist School and the community. 

Recognition
Each honored athlete will receive a commemorative plaque which is a replica of one to be displayed on the Blue & Gold Athletics Circle Wall of Honor in Centennial Center. Honored athletes will also receive a “free athletic ticket for life” to any Marist home sporting event held at Marist School, exclusive of region and state competitions.

2011 Blue & Gold Circle Award Recipients
The individuals chosen to join the Blue & Gold Athletic Circle for 2011 have been selected and will be inducted at a reception prior to the Homecoming Game vs Mays on October 28.

BLUE & GOLD CIRCLE
Martha Zimmer White (Marist '94) Tennis
   Martha Zimmer White played JV and varsity tennis at Marist where she received the Dean Hargis Award.
   She attended Murray State University on a tennis scholarship and earned an MS in Environmental Health Science at the University of Georgia.  She currently works at CH2M doing environmental consulting.
   She is married with 5-year old twin girls.

Richard 'Dick' Baly, Jr (Marist '70) Football
   Richard Baly played football for Marist from 7th through 12th Grade and was a varsity football captain his junior and senior years.  He was named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Lineman-of-the-Week and was selected All-State in 1970.  He also served on the Marist Student Council.  
   He earned Bachelor Degrees from West Georgia College and Southern Tech in Business Administration and went on to start Baly Insulation Service, Inc., a commercial and industrial mechanical insulation contracting company. 
   Richard is married to Sheila McParland Baly who was a cheerleader at Marist and has four daughters that all attended Marist; Kristan Baly ('98), Amy Baly ('00), Kate Baly Robinson ('03) and Samantha Baly ('05).

Benji Wood (Marist '93) Football
   Benji was an All-State Football and All-County Football Team member during his time at Marist.  He excelled onboth sides of the ball as a running back and defensive lineman.  He possessed the rare trait of having the ability to combine speed and agility with his size as a football player.  He began his college football career at Clemson and later transfered to Rice University where he excelled for the Owls.  Benji ended his college career ranking in the Top 10 in touchdowns scored in a season, touchdowns scored in a career and rushing yards per game average at Rice.  Not to be outdone by his accomplishments on the field, he was also named an Academic All-American.
   He is a partner at A.L. Grading Contractors.  He is married to Stacie Wood and has two children, Ashton and Kendall.

Brandon Walts (Marist '93) Swimming/Diving
   Brandon Walts was a 4-time High School State Champion in Swimming and a High School All-American.  He attended North Carolina State University and set 3 school records and was a Collegiate All-American and Academic All-American.
   He earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Georgia Tech.  He is currently a Program Manager at Honeywell.  He and his wife Betsy have two daughters, Reese and Kate.

Amy Baly (Marist '00) Swimming/Diving
   Amy Baly was a Varsity Swimming Captain her senior year at Marist and set the School Records in the 200 and 500 Freestyle.  She was also a Georgia State Champion.  She was the 2004 ACC Champion in the 400 Individual Medley and qualified for the Olympic Trials in 2000 and 2004 while attending the University of Virginia and was selected their Team Captain.
   She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics and is a Business Consultant for Baly Insulation Services, Inc.

Seth Chadwick (Marist '92) Basketball
   Seth Chadwick was a member of the All-County Basketball team when he played at Marist.  He attended Wofford College and is the 17th All-Time Leading Scorer in school history and holds the school record for making 11 3-point shots in a game.
   He is currently a teach and Head Girls Basketball Coach at West Forsyth High School.  He and his wife Cindy have 5 children; Johnny, Micah, Sarah, Jael, Titus and Sadie.

Timothy Paul Winterstein (Marist '91) Wrestling
   Coached by his father, Ed at Marist, Tim was the winner of the Tournament of Champions (All-Division State Champion Competition) and a 2-time member of the Marist State Championship Wrestling Team.  His overall record was 97-3 in matches and was a 3-time Most Valuable Wrestler at Marist.  He was also an All-County linebacker on the 1989 undefeated State Championship Football Team.  He went on to wrestle at the University of Virginia and was a 4-time NCAA Wrestling Letterwinner and NCAA Qualifier.

Mark Bradley (Marist '77) Baseball
   Mark was named Georgia AA Football Lineman-of-the-Year in 1976 and was the Team Captain for Marist's 1977 State Champion Baseball Team and Football Team that finished 3rd in the state.  He was also a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.  He attended Georgia Tech and was named Defensive Lineman-of-the-Year in 1978, 1980 and 1981 and was a 2-time winner of the Georgia Tech Rhodes Student-Athlete Scholarship.
   He is Director of Operations for Aptar Food and Beverage North America and he and his wife Kathie have two sons, Ryan and Pryce.

Carl South (Marist '93) Baseball
Carl was on the Marist Baseball Team that was ranked in the Top 10 by USA Today in 1993.  He was Co-MVP and Co-Player-of-the-Year in the state of Georgia in 1993.  He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and pitched for 6 years in the minor leagues for the Dodgers, Pirates and Braves organizations.  He graduated from Kennesaw State University with a BS in Computer Science and currently works in IT and has been a Systems Engineer for 12 years.

SERVICE AWARD
Ken Hagerman
Ken Hagerman taught at Marist from 1972 to 1994.  He started the Cross Country program and coached the boys and girls teams and was named Coach-of-the-Year in 1979.
He has a BA from the University of Georgia, a Law Degree from Emory University and a Master's Degree from Georgia State University.
He and his wife Mary have a son, Ken.
