From the Director of Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry at Marist extends a warm welcome to all new students and their families. We are confident you will enjoy being part of our Marist community. An enthusiastic “Welcome Back!” goes to our other students and families. We expect you are rested and ready for the new year. The following programs offer new students the opportunity to get to know the Marist community and allow returning students to continue their journey to being the person God wants each of them to be. We hope you will take advantage of the programs and participate where you can.
Peer Leader Program: New students should have heard from their assigned Peer Leader over the summer. Junior and senior leaders have planned pre-orientation activities for groups of new students in early August and will be leading orientation activities at school on August 23 and 24. These activities are a great way for students to meet classmates, get to know their Peer Leaders, and become acquainted with Marist before the first day of classes. Peer Leaders will continue to plan activities throughout the first half of the school year and will be following up regularly with new students. Do not hesitate to contact your child’s Peer Leader if you have questions for them. Also, if you have any questions or concerns about the Peer Leader program or upcoming activities, feel free to contact Mrs. Erin Paul at 770-936-6470 in Campus Ministry.
Retreats: Please remember to turn in your registration form for this year’s retreats! The deadline is Friday, September 3. Space is limited, so it is important to submit information promptly and to save the dates on your family’s calendar! Reach For Excellence
This past summer, Reach graduates returned to assist and inspire current Reach for Excellence students. Five former graduates served as interns for the program’s 103 students, working with them in the classroom, assisting in recreation periods, and accompanying them on field trips.
Continuing a tradition that began a few years ago, each year a Reach graduate returns to deliver the commencement address at the Stepping Up ceremony. This year’s featured speaker was Mae Murray, a graduate of Cohort D and a freshman at Spelman this fall. Reach for Excellence celebrated its largest graduation class and extends congratulations to them as they begin high school. We look forward to hearing about their achievements and to welcoming many of them back to assist future Reach students.
Marist Mothers’ Prayer Group
Marist Mothers' Prayer Group will meet September 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Marist School in Crest Lobby (Centennial Center second floor). Members of the prayer group include Marist mothers who get together to pray, listen to guest speakers, have discussions, and make friends. All activities are multi-denominational, and we invite all mothers to attend. So, if you are a long-time Marist mother or a new member of our Marist community, we hope to see you there. There are no joining fees, and you need not RSVP – feel free to just show up.
For more information, check the Marist website or contact Sharon Bowman (404) 851-9605 (email@example.com) or Kathy Cote (770) 671-9128 (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions.
