Foundations
Congratulations to Julia Dennis, 8th grade, for winning the Foundations Spelling Bee on January 6, 2011. Julia will represent Marist at the Archdiocese of Atlanta Spelling Bee on February 1. She and Charlotte Steinichen, the runner-up, will also compete in the Georgia Association of Educators Bee on February 10.
Booster Club Annual Non-Uniform Day Raffle
The Marist Booster Club Raffle is coming soon and just in time for a late stocking stuffer! Be on the lookout for an email in your inbox as we are having a non-uniform day raffle on January 26. All proceeds go to the support of all athletic programs at Marist School. Winning tickets will be pulled at the Varsity Basketball Game on 2/1 vs. Chamblee during halftime of the boys' game.

England Exchange

The dates for the Marist Senior School girls' trip are April 19-30, 2011. (This falls over Holy Week and Easter Week.) The dates for our trip are June 12-25, 2011.

The Marist Parents’ Club and Families in Action invite you to the continued series of Peer Parenting Workshops featuring Stacey DeWitt of Connect with Kids and members of the Marist Administration and faculty.
Please note that the driving seminar which formerly targeted newly licensed and permitted drivers is now intended for students of all ages and their parents. This is the only Families in Action seminar open to the student body.

Project Graduation Update
Plans for the 2011 Project Graduation are well underway. We have made some scheduling changes, but our evening will be as fun-filled as ever. We want to remind all junior class families that it is a Marist tradition for junior parents to help with this. Next year, you will have junior class parents hosting your children! Senior Mothers Luncheon at Villa Christina. The annual Senior Mothers’ Luncheon will be held on Monday, Feb. 7, 11 a.m. at Villa Christina. This is a memorable event each senior mother will surely want to attend. Senior Class DVD. It’s not too late to order your special keepsake celebrating all 2011 Seniors. The Senior Class DVD is in production now and will be ready for distribution at the Senior Mothers’ Luncheon. Cost of the DVD is $20. Course Selection Meeting for 7th Grade Parents
There will be an informational meeting for ALL 7th grade Parents on Tuesday, January 25 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in the Father Brennan Room. The topic of the meeting is “Course Selection for the Upcoming Year and Beyond.” Topics will include selecting a foreign language.

Marist Parents’ Club Committees
Co-Presidents oversee all activities of the Marist Parents’ Club.
Co-VPs Membership coordinate the production of the Marist Directory with school staff as well as provide refreshments/meals for the faculty and Parents’ Club Board. These volunteers move into the role of President the next school year.
Co-VP Grade Level Coordinators oversee the Grade Level Coordinators and Evening Meeting Coordinators for each grade that is responsible for several grade-specific events.
Corresponding Secretary distributes birthday gifts to staff and faculty members and sends other correspondence on behalf of the Parents’ Club.
Recording Secretary records minutes of the Parents’ Club meetings and keeps attendance.
Co-Treasurers are responsible for maintaining the financial records and managing the budget.
Campus Shop Chairs run the Campus Shop. Spirit wear, PE Uniforms and Varsity Jackets are some of the items available at Campus shop. A used uniform sale is held several times during the school year. The Campus Shop is open on Tues., Wed. and Thurs. and during various school events.
THE EVENT is a joint effort between the Parents’ Club, Booster Club and Marist Arts Guild. Volunteers are needed in many different capacities for this gala affair, which is held off Campus every other year. A Parents’ Club chair helps in the coordination of this effort.
Holiday Traditions Chairs run our successful annual fall craft show. Coordination of over 400 volunteers is carried out for this fundraiser.
Grade Level and Evening Meeting Coordinators oversee Room Mothers who host various social events for parents and students. Each grade has 12 or more room mothers. A grade level coordinator is assigned to each grade.
Special Projects Chair coordinates programs with local businesses that benefit Marist. (Publix and Georgia Natural Gas)
Social Committee hosts various Marist functions throughout the year such as Open House, New Parent Orientation, Honors Night and an end of year celebration for Parents Club Board members.
Cookbook Chair coordinates the sale of the cookbook published by the Marist Parents Club.
Marist Home Tour is a bi-annual event, which showcases several homes in the area. A home tour and luncheon are featured. Our next home tour will be held in May 2012.
Used Books makes arrangements for a book swap each June. Books are collected and shipped to a vendor.
Families in Action Chairs coordinate the ongoing education and awareness programs for parents sponsored by the Parents’ Club.
Faculty Appreciation Chairs coordinate monthly luncheons for faculty.
New Parent Support Chairs coordinate our summer outreach program for new parents. They also assist with the New Parent Orientation dinner held before school starts each year.
Project Graduation Chairs coordinate the party for the senior class held on the night of Graduation. Parents of junior students oversee this event.

Upcoming Events
Sophomore Course Scheduling – Counselors will be meeting with sophomore homerooms during activity period on Thursday, January 20, to go over scheduling for the junior and senior years.
Atlanta National College Fair – On Sunday, February 13, there will be a college fair at the Georgia International Convention Center from noon – 4:00 p.m. Over 150 colleges from throughout the US will be there to meet with students, and there will be topical sessions offered throughout the fair. The event is free, but there is a $5.00 parking fee at the convention center. Students can preregister for the fair at http://www.gotomyncf.com/nacac.asp .

Costa Rica Summer Trip
For parents and students interested in travelling to Costa Rica this summer to explore the rain forests and work with endangered sea turtles, please send Amelia Luke an email indicating your interest (lukea@marist.com). Both informational meetings have been snowed out, but we will try again on Wednesday, January 19th, after school in the Fr. Colin Room. Swing by to pick up information about this awesome opportunity. We plan to leave on June 10th for this nine day trip. Come with us!
