Announcements are made daily during homeroom period. Students or clubs may have announcements made by writing the message on the form provided in the Main Office. These requests must be signed by a faculty sponsor and submitted to the receptionist by 12 noon.
7.2 Emergencies
Emergency situations may develop in the course of a school day. Common sense and a calm manner are the best responses to such situations.
7.2.1 Student Illness:
Students who become ill during the school day should inform the school nurse in the clinic. Students may not leave the campus without permission from the Dean of Students.

7.2.2 Teacher Absence:
Should a teacher not come to class five minutes after the second bell has rung, the first student on the class list (i.e., alphabetically) should notify the Main Office. Should a teacher become ill during the class, the same procedure should be followed. All other students should remain quietly in their seats. The classroom door should remain open.
7.2.3 Fire and Tornado Drills:
Fire and tornado drills serve to inform students of evacuation or precautionary procedures to be followed should situations arise. Such drills require the prompt, quiet response of all. Students are to follow all instructions given by teachers.
7.2.4 School Closing:
Unusual weather may cause Marist to be closed or to open late. Details will be broadcast through the local news media (WSB-TV, WXIA-TV, WSB-750 am radio).Additionally, updates will be posted on the Marist School web page. If necessary, calls should be made to the school, not the rectory. The basic premise to be observed is that Marist is open, or will remain open, unless it is specifically announced otherwise. Marist does not follow any other school system with regard to closings or late openings.

7.3 Student Insurance
All students are covered by a scholastic accident insurance policy purchased by Marist. Any injury, other than athletic, should be reported to the school nurse; athletic injuries should be reported to the Athletic Director. Medical treatment should begin within thirty days, and a completed claim form submitted through Marist to the company within ninety days. Injuries resulting from misbehavior may be excluded from coverage.
7.3.1 Good Student and Driver Education Insurance Discount:
Most insurance companies grant a “good student” (B or 3.00 average) or a “driver education” premium discount. Appropriate forms should be requested from an insurance agent and brought to the Main Office for a school official’s signature.

7.4 Work Permits
Georgia law requires that minors under age eighteen obtain an employment or work permit in order to take a job. This form may be obtained in the Main Office. |
7.5 Financial Standing
Marist reserves the right to refuse classroom privilege; withhold exams, report cards, and/or transcripts; refuse permission to purchase a class ring; or deny graduation to any student whose financial account is delinquent. |
7.6 Messages for Students
7.6.1 Telephone Use by Students:
Use of the school telephone by students is allowed only in necessary situations. Students will be called from class only for emergency calls from parents. The school office will make every effort to cooperate in getting emergency messages to students. Requests for such messages should come from parents and must be kept to essential or unusual circumstances. Students summoned to any area on public address announcements will receive disciplinary action if they fail to respond.
7.6.2 Merchandise Greetings:
Flowers, balloons, cookies, cakes, etc. which are sent to a student at school are not accepted.
7.6.3 Forgotten Items:
Books, lunches, forgotten assignments, etc. are not delivered to the classrooms. Students failing to remember these items should check at the main office to see if they have been brought in.

7.7 Parent Responsibility
Parents are responsible for informing the school of changes that affect communication between school and parents.
7.7.1 Change of Address and/or Telephone Number:
Parents are responsible for notifying the school of any change of address and/or telephone number. The school cannot be held responsible for failure to communicate if it is not informed of changes. This applies not only to home telephone numbers but also to the business and emergency telephone numbers of parents and “persons to notify” as previously registered with the school.
7.7.2 Parents Out of Town:
When going out of town, parents should send a note explaining the ways they can be reached and with whom the student will be staying. The note is attached to the student’s medical form in the clinic for use in an emergency.

7.8 Lost and Found
Marist maintains a “Lost and Found” area in the lower cafeteria. To facilitate return of items, students should put names in books, notebooks, clothing, gym bags, etc. After thirty days, items will be given away.

7.9 Field Trips
Students going on field trips during regular school hours will normally dress in the school attire proper to the season, unless the nature of the trip dictates to the contrary. Students must also return signed any waivers previously provided. Teachers may withhold a student from a school day field trip because of the student’s academic standing. |
7.10 Visitors to Campus
Students wishing to bring a visitor to Marist during the academic day must submit a visitor’s request form to the Dean of Students’ Office at least one week prior to the requested visit date. These forms are available in the Main Office. |
