Expectations for Student-Athletes

2010-2011

 

The Marist School Athletic Department has adopted the following expectations in an attempt to support the student-athletes who participate in our program. This form must be on file in the Athletic Office for the student-athlete to participate in a sport. These expectations will be enforced during the entire school year and will be reviewed during each athletic season with all student-athletes and their parent.

 

1. The Marist student-athlete shall abide by the Marist School Parent/Student Handbook.

2. The Marist student-athlete shall demonstrate a positive attitude.

3. The Marist student-athlete shall adhere to the following team rules:

  • No use of tobacco products, alcohol, or illegal drugs.
  • Maintain healthy sleep and social hours.
  • Represent your team in a positive manner at all times.
  • Practice good sportsmanship at all times.
  • Participate in both an in-season and out-of-season strength and conditioning program, when possible.
  • Avoid any situation which might lead to an undesirable outcome.

4. Trust is essential in the building of team unity. Violation of other teammates’ or students’ property will be dealt with severely with probability of suspension or dismissal from team.

5. The Marist student-athlete shall meet the daily participation rule that requires full class attendance to be eligible to participate in practice or a game. Please refer to Section 3.2.4 of the Marist School Parent/Student Handbook or contact the Dean of Students concerning this Rule.

6. The Marist student-athlete shall support the concept that the team comes first before the individual.

7. The Marist student-athlete shall attend every practice.

8. The Marist student-athlete shall be responsible for communicating to the coach that he or she will be missing a practice or game as soon as the student-athlete recognizes that this will occur.

9. The Marist student-athlete shall adhere to specific team rules as communicated in each sport.

10. The Marist athlete shall complete their commitment to one team/season before participating with a new team/season, unless mutually agreed upon by both head varsity coaches and the Athletic Director.

11. The Georgia High School Association requires a student-athlete to earn a grade of C- or better in five subjects to be eligible for athletics.

12. The athletic banquet or end-of-season party is considered part of the season and must be attended by the athlete in order to meet the athletic participation requirements. Violations of the above expectations may result in disciplinary action to be determined by the Head Coach and Athletic Director. Such action may include suspension or dismissal from the team.

 

All Marist athletic programs require a five or six day commitment per week, depending on the program. Junior varsity and lower programs generally do not practice or play on school holidays, but may have Saturday practices or games. Varsity programs may require practice or game attendance on or during school holidays as well as during exams.
