Although Lacrosse is the newest sport at Marist, it is one of the oldest in North America.  The game's roots can be traced back to Native American culture as a means to develop warriors and training for war.  Early contests consisted of hundreds of participants with goals miles apart, that lasted for days.  Today, Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports with more than 500,000 players worldwide.

In the Atlanta area, Lacrosse is growing rapidly, challenging the dominant Northeast and Mid-Atlantic programs.  The Marist Lacrosse program began in 2004 with the creation of boys and girls varsity teams.  Junior Varsity teams were added in 2007.  The girl's team has had a successful beginning, having qualified for the State Playoffs in each season of existence, achieving the Elite Eight in 2007.
