Wrestling Community Service Project

The Marist Wrestling Team has adopted Our Lady of The Assumption Saint Vincent de Paul Society for its team community service project. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a Catholic lay organization. The members provide tangible assistance to those in need (regardless of race or religion) on a person-to-person basis. This assistance may take the form of intervention, consultation, direct dollar aid, or in-kind service. All this is done conscientiously maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those who are served. |

Marist Wrestling - Focused on the Future

The Marist wrestling team secured a ninth place finish Feb. 18 at state, but the War Eagles are focused on the future.
Marist (19-9) sent six wrestlers to the Georgia High School Association Class AAAA state meet. Three of those four placed in the Top-6, garnering points for the War Eagles. None of the qualifiers for state were seniors.

Marist Qualifies 4 Wrestlers for State

Marist wrestlers Patrick Jackson, Matt Andres, Kenneth Brinson and Steven Wallace have qualified to make the trip to The Gwinnett Arena next weekend for the AAAA State Wrestling Tournament. These wrestlers finished in the top 16 of their weight class in the Sectional Tournament held at Loganville High School on Friday and Saturday. War Eagle Wrestlers Capture Area Title, Get Ready for Sectionals

The Marist War Eagles captured the Area 6-AAAA Team Wrestling Championship on Saturday at Dunwoody High School recording 212.5 team points and outdistancing 2nd Place Southwest Dekalb by 47 points.
Marist finished with 3 Individual Area Champions while qualifying 11 wrestlers for the AAAA State Sectionals next weekend. The top eight at the sectional will advance to the AAAA State Tournament on February 16-18 at the Gwinnett Arena.

Wrestlers Finish 2nd at DeKalb County Championship

McNair High School celebrated its 25th year of athletic participation by rallying in the championship round to defeat Marist 200.5-193 to capture the school’s first ever DeKalb County Wrestling Championships title last Saturday at Miller Grove High School.
Marist, the Area 6-AAAA champion, was leading going into the championship, third place and fifth place match finals by a score of 182 to 175.5.
Marist’s effort was led by Kenneth Brinson’s gold medal performance in the 195 weight division and three silver medal finishes by Patrick Lange (120), Matt Andres (138) and Ian Kirchner (145).

Marist Wrestlers Headed for DeKalb County Wrestling Championships

The 2012 William S. Venable DeKalb County Wrestling Championships begin at 5 p.m. on Friday at Miller Grove High School. The tournament will consist of wrestlers from 21 schools (19 DeKalb County, St. Pius X, Marist and Decatur) and the championship rounds will be on Saturday with wrestle backs beginning at 1 p.m. Region 2-AAAAA champion Stephenson (20-2) along with Region 6-AAAA champion Marist (18-8) and runner-up Southwest DeKalb (10-9) and Region 5-AAA runner-up McNair (20-2) headline the teams competing.

Brinson Wins 1st Place at Prep Slam Wrestling Tournament

Marist wrestler Kenneth Brinson claimed 1st Place at the Prep Slam Tournament on Saturday night at Holy Innocents School. Over 40 schools from 11 states competed in this prestigious national tournament. Brinson won in exciting fashion in a match that required double overtime.

Wrestlers Win Region - Advance to State

The War Eagle Varsity wrestlers won the Region 6-AAAA Region Wrestling Duals held in Centennial Center and will go to Macon next Friday and Saturday (Jan 13-14) to compete in the AAAA State Duals. The first round opponent will be Cass in Friday morning.
