Coach John Bauersfeld is entering his 4th year as the head coach of Marist School. The War Eagle program has won 60 games during the three years of his tenure and they advanced to the Final Four in 2022.  The War Eagles have been the regular season region champions two out of the last three years and have consistently been ranked in the top 15 of their respective classification as well.

Prior to becoming the head coach at Marist, Coach Bauersfeld spent two years at Pinecrest Academy in Cumming, GA. He inherited a program that had won 9 games in two years and had never made the GHSA playoffs. Under the direction of Coach Bauersfeld Pinecrest won 33 games in two seasons and advanced to the Elite 8 of the GHSA playoffs in 2020. 

Coach Bauersfeld began his head coaching career at Calvert Hall College High School in Baltimore, MD. Calvert Hall plays in the nationally recognized Baltimore Catholic League.  Coach Bauersfeld was the head coach at Calvert Hall for 11 years and in that time his teams won over 209 games, two Baltimore Catholic League regular season titles, two Baltimore Catholic League tournament titles, and one Maryland Independent Athletic Association title. Calvert Hall performed well on the national stage under Coach Bauersfeld defeating teams that are routinely nationally ranked such as Gonzaga College High School, Mt. St. Joseph, St. Frances, and Riverdale Baptist. 

Coach Bauersfeld was named Baltimore Catholic Coach of the Year 4 times in his 11 years at Calvert Hall. In 2020, the Forsyth County News named him Forsyth County Coach of the year for his work at Pinecrest Academy. Most recently, Sandy’s Spiel named him Coach of the year in 2022 for leading Marist to the Final Four. 

Over his tenure as  head coach, Coach Bauersfeld has coached over 30 young men who have gone on to play in college at the DI, DII, and DIII levels. He currently has three former players who are playing professionally. Coach Bauersfeld has also served as an assistant coach for USA East Coast which is an organization that brings college players overseas to play against foreign competition.  Coach Bauersfeld served under Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown in 2017 and also served as an assistant coach to NBA Coach Alex Jensen in 2022. During these experiences, he got to work with NBA players Quinn Cook, Dwight Powell, and recent NBA draft pick KJ Simpson as well as a number of other high level players.
