Marist School Hosts 29th Model Arab League Conference

On January 24-25, Marist School hosted its 29th annual Model Arab League conference with more than 250 students from across metro Atlanta in attendance. Model Arab League, a student leadership development program of the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations, is a diplomatic simulation that gives students insight into the Middle East and Arab world while helping them build public speaking, writing, and negotiation skills.  For over a quarter of a century, Marist has been the host of the largest and first high school Model Arab League. The program has been developed and nurtured since its inception by Dr. Louisa Moffitt, a longtime social studies teacher at Marist.
This year, the event’s keynote address was given by Marist parent and Atlanta Journal-Constitution Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Mike Luckovich, who demonstrated his drawing expertise to attendees as he delivered his presentation.
Marist School Principal Kevin Mullally summed up the importance of this event, “We believe that engaging with the rich complexity of political, economic, social, and spiritual ideology of the region can only enhance and foster an understanding of our global neighbors in the Middle East and promote a dialogue that breeds tomorrow’s peace,” said Marist School Principal Kevin Mullally.
