Marist Speech & Debate Program Succeeds at NCFL National Championship
Over Memorial Day weekend, Marist School's Speech & Debate program competed at the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Marist School’s policy debate team, Anthony Ovadje ’21 and Victoria Turnier ’20, had their best performance of the season. The team made it to round 32 and placed 17th overall in the nation out of more than 120 teams that qualified for this national championship.
This is the fourth time in the past five years that Marist’s policy debate team has finished ranked in the top 20 nationally. It is also the fourth time in program history that a policy debate team and a public forum debate team placed in the top 20 nationally. However, this is the first time that every Marist student who placed in the top 20 in a season was a sophomore or a junior.
The Marist Speech & Debate team wraps up their season in two weeks with a public forum team competing at the National Speech & Debate Association National Tournament.
