The award, named for the Marist saint who was martyred for his faith, is given annually in recognition of individuals whose selflessness, exceptional support, and enthusiastic leadership have advanced the mission of Marist School in a profound and fundamental way. The Cotes, parents of Christopher '03, Collen '05, Kevin '07, and Connor '13, were honored by the school during its annual St. Peter Chanel Society Recognition Dinner held on Tuesday, October 22 at the Atlanta History Center. Two of the Cotes’ children, Colleen and Connor, along with nearly 300 of the school’s leadership donors, were in attendance.
Marist School President Father Bill Rowland, S.M. said, “For 17 years, the Cotes were deeply engaged as Marist parents. Though their children have graduated, the couple has continued to provide significant volunteer leadership and service to Marist, for which we remain profoundly grateful.”
The Most Reverend Joel M. Konzen, S.M, former Marist School principal and current auxiliary bishop and diocesan administrator of the Archdiocese of Atlanta, introduced the Cotes at the event. He spoke of the couple’s far-reaching involvement with Marist over the years and how “their friendship to Marist School has been invaluable.”
Upon their acceptance of the award, Kathy described how Marist School helped them to raise their four children. She said that to her, Marist means “the personal experience of the power of a shared faith, the commitment to creating strong families, and the love of true friends.”
Mike added, “We are honored and humbled to receive this award and be in the company of the past recipients who we respect, admire, and thank for their part in this family—this great community.” He continued, “…everything we did and do, whether it was working the concession stand, helping setup for a Family Mass, or driving for Holiday Traditions, we do because we passionately believe in and love this Marist family.”
For more than two decades, Kathy and Mike Cote have been extensively involved in the life of Marist School. The Cotes initially volunteered for Marist through the athletic program and Parents Club and went on to promote spirituality on campus—Mike as a founding member of the Men’s Bible Study and Kathy as a leader of the Marist Mothers Prayer Group and founding member of the Marist Mothers of Alumni Prayer Group.
Mike provides leadership on the Marist School Board of Trustees, currently serving as vice chair. He also has chaired the Finance Committee and the Campus Master Plan Implementation Committee. Both Mike and Kathy served on the Steering Committee for The Way. The Hope. The Promise. capital campaign and volunteered for the Second Century campaign. A former chair of the Parents of Alumni Committee, Kathy currently serves on the Development Committee.
Born in Massachusetts, Mike moved to the Atlanta area as a teenager and attended Roswell High School. A Philadelphia native, Kathy attended Catholic schools throughout her education. The couple met at Boston College and married after graduation.
A distinguished leader in the technology industry and his community, Mike is currently president, CEO, and on the Board of Directors of Secureworks. Under his leadership, the firm has grown to become one of the world’s leading internet security software and solutions firms. Previously, Mike held executive positions with Talus Solutions and MSI Solutions. He serves on the Board of Trustees for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and on the Board of Regents at Boston College.
Kathy is a passionate advocate for Catholic education and serves on the Board of Regents at Boston College, the Board of Directors of the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia, the Cristo Rey Network Board of Directors, and the Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School Board of Trustees.
In their spare time, the Cotes enjoy visiting with their children and four grandchildren.
