Students Praise God by Lifting Up Their Voices: Sacred Concert 2020
On Tuesday, February 4, Marist School choral students performed in the Sacred Concert held this year at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Students praised God by lifting up their voices in song in this concert of sacred music.
Marist School Choral Director Mrs. Sharon Coheley said, “Sacred Concert is my favorite concert of the year. I enjoy all of the concerts, but this one is really special for two main reasons. First, we sing songs of praise about and to our Lord. Second, the audience gets to see our entire choral program—from 7th grade through seniors—in separate ensembles and then all 240 of them sing a piece together at the end. It's beautiful!”
All ensembles sang “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by Peter C. Lutkin to conclude the performance.
At Marist, music education is a vital part of fulfilling the school’s mission to form the whole person in the image of Christ. In chorus, students learn creative and critical thinking, problem solving, and personal responsibility every day. These lessons are inherent in every music class and are skills which will be advantageous to students long after high school. The different ensembles include Girls Chorus, Blue Chorus, Gold Chorus, Advanced Girls Chorus, Trio, Quartet, Marist Singers, and the Chamber Chorale.
