Marist School Celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

Over the past few weeks, Marist School has been celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, led by Marist’s Latin American Studies Cultural Club (LASCC).
LASCC educates the Marist community about Latin American and Latino culture, and club members have offered morning prayers as well as displayed items from Latin America in the Bishop Gunn Administration Center in honor of the month-long celebration.

To kick off the festivities, LASCC moderator and social studies teacher Mr. Jose Gregory shared a reflection and prayer with the school community. He described the origins of the celebration which honors the cultures and contributions of individuals whose ancestors came from Spain and Latin America and who have been integral in shaping and molding the history of our country. Mr. Gregory said, “May these efforts not only serve as acts of remembrance but also provide us with perspective of our nation’s history. And we do mean all of us, not just those with a Hispanic or Latino background…”

The celebration will wrap-up next week with an LASCC viewing of the movie “Coco” and the construction of an altar, ofrenda in Spanish, in the newly expanded lobby of Wooldridge Center.

Thank you, Mr. Gregory and LASCC members, for educating the Marist community as we celebrate American citizens with roots in Latin America!
