In Memoriam: Pelham Hansard Anderson, III

August 5, 1957 – December 9, 2020

Mr. Pelham Anderson, dedicated Marist School physics teacher and caring colleague, left this life on December 9, 2020, and entered into the life hereafter following his courageous years-long fight against cancer.
He left this world in peace, which we accept as some grace during a time of loss and mourning.

Originally from Mountain Brook, Alabama, Pelham spent several years in the Atlanta area, working in various careers. His most recent and perhaps most beloved career was as the AP physics teacher at Marist. Prior to his teaching career, he practiced law in the Atlanta area and worked in the space industry as a physicist in Huntsville, Alabama.

As a lifelong learner, Pelham earned several degrees including bachelor’s degrees in economics and petroleum engineering and a master’s degree in physics, all from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville and a law degree from Georgia State University.

Pelham is survived by his wife Nancy, children Pelham H. Anderson, IV and Maggie Anderson, his brother John Scott Anderson, sister-in-law Richele Powell Anderson, and nephew Hap.

Marist School Principal Mr. Kevin Mullally said, “Students who have had the benefit of learning from Pelham would tell you of his care for them and his passion for his subject. He loved the work he did here at Marist and loved being in the classroom. It was what he looked forward to most, after spending time with his family, even as he was battling the cancer.”

On Friday, December 11, Marist held a prayer service in celebration of Pelham’s life for faculty and staff in person and for students and parents via livestream.

Pelham will be given a private, family-only funeral Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marist School. Checks made payable to “Marist School” can be mailed to 3790 Ashford Dunwoody Road NE, Atlanta, GA 30319. Gifts can also be made on the Marist School online giving site. Please write “In memory of Pelham Anderson” in the memo line or comments section of your gift.

Please join the Marist School community as we offer the following prayer for the repose of Pelham’s soul:

O Christ our Lord and our Salvation,

Shepherd the soul of Pelham Anderson into Your kingdom where he might find rest and
joy everlasting with You and our Father. Bring consolation to those still on earth who love
and miss him.

We thank You for the blessing of his life and work and remember all the good he has done here at Marist for our students and for our community under the name of Mary.

You are the resurrection and the life, our bedrock and our strength, our sure foundation in
times of struggle and loss. Be with us now in our time of need as we turn to you.

Amen.

Mary, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us.
