Marist Students ‘Not Throwin’ Away Their Shot’ in Hamilton Workshop

On September 13, a member of the touring cast for the smash-hit Broadway musical Hamilton visited Marist School for an after-school workshop with students.
Participants learned the choreography for "My Shot" and then spent time with the guest artist in a question-and-answer session.

Theater Director Mr. Eric McNaughton ’90 discussed how excited everyone was about the opportunity to interact with a Hamilton company member on campus. He said, “Our students—many of whom are seeing Hamilton during it’s time here in Atlanta this month—learned some great choreography from the show and were riveted by our guest’s enlightening thoughts about life as a working actor. After an odd year of uncertainty, it felt really good to be back in the room and making something happen!”

Angel Kinyua ’22 enjoyed every minute of the experience. She said, “Being afforded the opportunity to work with someone so accomplished was truly life changing. I loved being able to learn choreography that I had seen so many times before… Even learning about the struggle and hardships but also the rewards that come with being on Broadway was very eye opening.”

Similarly, Maggie Seaver ’25 appreciated how the Q & A session offered a peek into life behind the curtains for professional artists. She also shared how the workshop put her dance skills to the test. Maggie said, “It was a great experience, and I learned that as challenging as it was to learn the dance in the short amount of time we had, Broadway performers learned this difficult choreography in an even quicker amount of time.”

What an amazing experience for Marist’s talented performers!
