Marist School has hired Sean Dever as their new head girls lacrosse coach. Dever also will work in the Athletics Office on marketing initiatives, athletics social media, athletics purchasing, and game management for Marist’s 70 athletic teams. Dever is a graduate of Young Harris College where he was an all-conference lacrosse goalie and a three-year team captain while receiving his bachelor’s degree in business and sports studies.

“Sean is a very positive young man who is willing to put in the work to make Marist girls lacrosse a force in Georgia. His experience as a player, a college coach, a club coach, and a high school coach will be invaluable to our program, and I think he will be an excellent role model to our young ladies with his work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles,” said Marist Athletic Director Derek Waugh ’89. “While most of his experience comes from the men’s side of the game, I know he will make a quick transition, and he will have the benefit of some excellent assistant coaches on the girls side.”

Dever grew up in Atlanta and attended Blessed Trinity Catholic High School where he was a four-year varsity letterman in lacrosse and a three-year letterman in wrestling. He also played a year of varsity football. At Young Harris, Dever was the starting goalie on a team that enjoyed the greatest success in school history. After graduating from Young Harris, Dever joined the coaching staff for the NCAA Division II Mountain Lions, where he became the defensive coordinator for the men and the goalie coach for the women. He also served as an administrator in the athletics office.

Dever left Young Harris to explore other business opportunities, but he has been a mainstay on the lacrosse stage in Atlanta. He has coached club lacrosse for nine years throughout the metro-Atlanta area, and he has served as the defensive coordinator for the Woodstock High School boys lacrosse program. Last year, the Woodstock program had the best season in school history, advancing to the 6-7A Elite Eight and producing its first ever defensive All-American.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to work with such a great staff in the athletic department,” said Dever. “I have always had a great respect for Marist having competed against them in high school, and I am looking forward to helping the girls lacrosse program grow and reflect the excellence of the institution. Go War Eagles!”
