German Marist Students in Solidarity with Marist School Students
The Society of Mary, which owns and operates Marist School, is a global network of men and women who strive to live the Gospel the way Mary lived it. So, when Marist School students in Atlanta were invited to leave their classrooms and congregate in Alumni Plaza on March 14 for a 17- minute commemoration for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School victims, a Marist school in Germany took notice.
Following Marist School’s event, students at Maristen Gymnasium Fürstenzell posed for a photo to show their solidarity with Marist School students who joined the national walkout to display their commitment to peace and non-violence as well as their support for common-sense gun regulation as proposed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Because of their Catholic faith and Marist charism, the Marist schools’ commemoration and displays of support were grounded in prayer, reflection, and the perspective of the Church.
Earlier this year, students from Maristen Gymnasium Fürstenzell participated in a student exchange program, visiting Marist School for several days of classes and enjoying many tourist activities in Atlanta. In June, a number of Marist School students, chaperoned by Mr. Mark Craddock and Mrs. Jennifer Hogan, will travel to Germany for a similar student exchange.
