The Marist Way

What is the Marist Way?

The Marist Way refers to a certain way of living the Gospel and that is the way Mary lived it as understood by a group of religious and laity called Marists. This Marist Way of living the Gospel describes how Marists strive to breathe in her spirit so that in all things they may think, judge, feel, and act like Mary, the first disciple of Jesus and model of discipleship. To live the Marist Way is to be engaged in “the Work of Mary” to which Marists are called by a gracious choice of hers.

What is the Mission of the Marist Way?

In order to maintain and deepen the Marist ethos of the school and to advance its mission, the Marist Way forms and develops its participants in the spirit of the Society of Mary by embracing a life of prayer, community, learning, service, and vocation. As a result of their participation, some may wish to partner with the Society of Mary in advancing the mission of Marist School. Others may identify themselves as Marist Laity while still others, called by a gracious choice of Mary, may want to undergo the formal process of becoming a Lay Marist.

Our Lady of Lourdes

Our Blessed Virgin Mary appeared 18 times to fourteen year old Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France, in 1858. A Shrine to Our Lady of Lourdes was subsequently established in the area. Pilgrimages to Lourdes have since taken place for at least 150 years, with approximately six million visitors traveling to Lourdes each year. Many of the pilgrims, especially those who are very sick, seek physical healing and spiritual comfort. And many are healed, either physically or mentally. So powerful is Our Lady! Seventy miracles have been recognized by the Roman Catholic Church from among these visitors. The International Medical Committee of Lourdes has certified another 2,000 unexplained cures.

Since the 1950s, annual pilgrimages to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in France have been sponsored by multiple organizations including the Society of Mary, the Knights of Malta, and others. These organizations sponsor trips and other events related to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes for thousands of individuals seeking healing each year.

Honoring that spiritual tradition, and mindful of all the sick and needy who may benefit from being in Her presence, we wanted to make it possible for all who are desiring to visit Our Lady of Lourdes to experience the possible physical healing powers or the mental/emotional comfort that she can provide by visiting Her at home.

Members of our Marist community will bring Our Lady of Lourdes home to you together with Lourdes Water. Faith and prayer can work miracles even if you are not personally at the sanctuary in France.  It is our sincere hope that Her visit will provide you with the same physical healing and spiritual comfort that an actual visit to Her shrine, had it been possible, would have provided you and your family.

Our Lady of Lourdes will stay with you for up to one week or more. We are providing you with Lourdes Water directly from the Lourdes Grotto.

If you would like to request the Our Lady of Lourdes statue, please submit the request form. A special thank you to Dr. Mario J.R. Ravry and his family for developing this program and bringing it to fruition.
