Marist School Names New Head Coach for Varsity Boys Lacrosse

Zach Bazemore has been named head coach of the varsity boys lacrosse program at Marist School. Bazemore also will serve the school as assistant director of facilities.
Prior to joining Marist, he was the assistant operations manager for Allegiant Stadium, the state-of-the-art home of the Las Vegas Raiders and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas’ football program as well as host of world-class concerts and sporting events.

A graduate of Blessed Trinity Catholic High School in Roswell, Georgia, Bazemore was a star member of the lacrosse team and continued his playing career at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. There, he was a freshman starter at midfield and was named to the Southern Athletic Association Honor Roll. When men’s lacrosse was discontinued at Millsaps, Bazemore transferred to Kennesaw State University where he assisted with numerous sports for the Owls and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports management. During his time at Kennesaw, Bazemore also coached numerous club teams in the North Atlanta area and assisted with the lacrosse program at Blessed Trinity.

“I have heard and seen only great things from Zach. While this is his first varsity head coaching position, I believe he has the passion, energy, knowledge, and enthusiasm to lead this program,” said Marist School Athletic Director Derek Waugh ’89. “It was fun to watch our lacrosse program work hard and enjoy unprecedented success this past year. With a solid group of coaches returning and Zach’s ability to cultivate our lower programs and develop lacrosse at Marist, I believe we can build on that success. Having him on campus year-round also will be great for the program; he will be involved with everything.”

Bazemore takes over the lacrosse program from Scott Mandy, Marist’s first and only boys varsity lacrosse head coach who has led the program for 18 years while also serving as chair of the Physical Education Department and Marist’s head strength and conditioning coach. “Scott did a great job with the lacrosse program. I am glad that he will have more time with the weight program and his wonderful family. He has set up Zach and the program for success with his enhancements this year and the addition of a good crop of younger players,” added Waugh.

“I am humbled to join the Marist boys lacrosse program as the varsity head coach, and I look forward to building upon something special here,” said Bazemore. “I have always had an incredible passion for lacrosse and for working with programs from the middle school level up to varsity. I cannot wait to get started and show these student-athletes the passion, work ethic, and dedication I have towards making boys lacrosse an elite program at Marist.”

Bazemore’s father, Preston, also works at Marist School as head athletic trainer.
