Winter Fine Arts Showcases Illuminate Marist Student Talent

One of the highlights this season was the Sacred Choral Concert, held on February 12 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. The event began with an opening prayer by School Chaplain Father John Ulrich, S.M., setting a reverent tone for the evening. Nine choral ensembles, directed by Mrs. Sharon Coheley and Mr. Tim Johnson, captivated the audience with their renditions of beloved sacred songs. The event was a moving experience that aptly showcased the remarkable range of Marist's singers.

 

Five singers represented Marist at the prestigious Georgia Music Educators Association’s (GMEA) All-State Chorus in Athens from February 15-17. Among them, Brennan Ujda '24 stood out as one of the 41 seniors in Georgia recognized for his dedication to music, having been selected to All-State Chorus every year from middle school through high school. Alongside Grant Crunk '28, Flannery Hipp '26, Lena McMorrow '27, and Lainey O'Toole '28, Ujda and his fellow singers honed their skills under the guidance of esteemed guest conductors. Their extraordinary performances at The Classic Center in Athens were a testament to their dedication to their craft.

 

The Winter Band Concert, held on February 20 in the Woodruff Auditorium, was another resounding success. Under the direction of Mr. Aaron Schmitt and assistant band director Mr. Benjamin Barber, Marist students presented their developing skills as musicians with grandeur. The concert exemplified the spirit of excellence fostered within Marist’s performing arts community, thanks to the unwavering commitment of both teachers and students.

 

Art enthusiasts were treated to a Fine Arts End-of-Term Art Show, which had its Opening Reception on February 22 in the Marist Art Gallery. Showcasing pieces from photography, art, and ceramics classes, the exhibition demonstrated the creativity and skill of Marist's budding visual artists. This term’s exhibit provided a glimpse into the rich tapestry of artistic expression flourishing within the school. The artwork remained on display through February 29.

 

Looking ahead, Marist's Fine Arts Department promises more captivating performances in the spring. Marist Theater’s spring productions of "Something Rotten!" and "Tuck Everlasting" are set to deliver high-energy comedic performances and moving portrayals, respectively. Additionally, the Marist Dance Company will dazzle audiences with their showcase April 11-12 in Woodruff Auditorium. Tickets for these upcoming events will soon be available for purchase, offering the community an opportunity to witness the magic of Marist's performers firsthand.
