Build Dates and Tasks

As you read tasks listed for each day of the build, remember that no gear, prior experience, or construction skills are necessary or expected.

  • Sign up to make new friends and meet Marist moms.
  • Choose a date to encourage a group of friends to work together.
  • Sign up to work with your Marist student (see sidebar).

All MWB Build Days

Coffee and light breakfast items are provided each morning by a generous sponsor.

  • Builders report to the lobby of Centennial at 6:30 a.m. to carpool to the work site.
  • Except for Build Day 1, which is a half-day, builders are expected to stay the full work day which ends around 3:30 p.m., returning to Marist by 4:00 p.m.
  • Volunteers can purchase MWB pink hardhats and hammer pins on build day.
  • Hardhats are required on Build Days 1-3 and are available to borrow from Atlanta Habitat if needed.
  • Workers should wear closed-toed shoes and consider long pants.
  • All supplies and tools will be provided. Volunteers are welcome to bring their own tool belt and work gloves.
  • Lunch, snacks, and drinks will be provided.
  • All volunteers receive the annual t-shirt designed exclusively for MWB by Mike Luckovich.
  • On Build Day 1, carpools drive to Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Warehouse. On all other build days, carpools drive from Marist directly to the construction site.
  • This is a real construction site. Be prepared to work hard and get dirty.
  • We build rain or shine. Bring a hat and rain gear if rain is in the forecast and sunscreen if the sun is out!

Weekday Build - Half Day

  • Build exterior and interior walls at the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity Warehouse.

Day 2: Saturday, March 16, 2024
Sadie Hawkins

  • Set floor joists and lay floor decking
  • Apply sheathing to wall panels
  • Install exterior and interior walls
  • Install front porch deck, columns and beams
  • Build side porch and stairs

Day 3: Saturday, April 6, 2024
Mother Son Build Day

  • Install
    • exterior doors and security doors
    • windows and trim packages
    • exterior trim and siding
    • exterior steps

Day 4: Saturday, April 13, 2024
Senior Prom, ACT

  • Interior framing and air seal
  • Complete siding installation
  • Install soffit and fascia boards

Day 5: Saturday, April 20, 2024
Senior Emmaus

  • Interior trim
  • Interior doors
  • Install soffit and metal
  • Exterior paint

Day 6: Thursday, April 25, 2024
Weekday Build

  • Install
    • porch handrails
    • interior doors
    • kitchen cabinets
  • Continue soffit and fascia board installations

Day 7: Saturday, May 4, 2024
SAT

  • Exterior painting
  • Install
    • baseboards, window sills and interior trim
    • doorknobs and bathroom hardware

Day 8: Saturday, May 11, 2024
Dedication

  • Clean interior of house
  • Touch-up painting
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks
  • Remove construction debris from property
  • Install landscape materials (sod, plants, trees, etc.)
  • Dedication Day
    On the final day of construction, house sponsors and volunteers join the new homebuyer family to dedicate the new home.

Marist Students Build with Moms

  • Seven build days are available for Marist mothers and daughters.
  • Build Day 3 is reserved for Marist mothers who would like to work with their sons.
  • All builders must be 16 or older.
  • Marist students earn 7 to 8 hours of community service for building.
