Mission Trips

Mission Trips

Mission trips are in-depth service opportunities that build community and have a tremendous impact both on those serving and those served. Several mission trips are available each year to the Marist School community at U.S. as well as international locations.

  • Appalachia Service Project

Participants work on emergency repair projects for families designated by the Appalachian Service Project (ASP). Marist has served in North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia in summers past and has replaced roofs, constructed wheelchair ramps and decks, installed drainage and waterproofing, and fully insulated homes in need of serious repair. The families are present during the service project, and ASP emphasizes the importance of developing relationships with these families as well as completing the service project.

Each day begins with morning devotions. The days are filled with active construction projects and home repair. Evenings include a variety of activities such as "culture night," a picnic with all camp participants and all the residents who received help, a worship service, some chores, and free time.

The trip is open to 10-15 high school students.
  • Catholic HEART Workcamp

In 2012, Catholic HEART Workcamp had seven teams of staff who conducted 47 camps across the country and in Jamaica with over 12,500 campers participating. Marist School has participated in the camp since 2009. Participation has grown from five to 30 students. The camp is open to rising 7th graders through graduating seniors.

For a typical week, the group travels to the site on Sunday and are divided into work teams of six youth comprised of students from different participating groups. (Make new friends!) The groups are assigned a work site for Tuesday through Thursday. (Help people in need!) The morning and evening programs are dynamic, fun, and inspirational. (Grow in your relationship with God!) The concluding Friday is a free day. (Have fun!)

  • Nicaragua Mission Trip

For the mission trip to Nicaragua, Marist School partners with Amigos for Christ.

From www.amigosforchrist.org: "We host over 50 dynamic mission trips to Chinandega, Nicaragua each year. These weeklong trips consist of groups from schools, churches, and even companies. The focus of our trips is to serve God by working alongside and building relationships with our Nicaraguan friends. Trip activities vary, but usually consist of construction work, community development, health clinics, spiritual programs, sports, and visiting orphanages."
  • Peru Mission Trip

For a number of years, Marist students have spent one week during the summer in Peru. Their home base is the Marist Fathers' residence. Each day provides a different service opportunity, such as spending time with children at an orphanage.
